Michele is a veteran Independent Copywriter, and advocate for Happier, Healthier Advertising Careers through her mentorship platform, Happy-Go-Healthy-Freelancer. Since entering the industry in 2010, Michele has been a part of the major step change in the way we advertise to women, helping to bring spirit, grace, depth and humor to a formerly miscast demographic.
Michele began her career at 360i during the industry’s “digital wild west,” and was responsible for creating unprecedented virality for each of the major brands she worked for, most notably the globally viral “#Mamming” campaign, which, in a pre-TikTok era, generated hundreds of millions of earned-only impressions for Mammogram Awareness, as well as “Say It With Bacon,” Oscar Mayer’s most talked about ad campaign in the company’s 125-year history, resulting in a 3.3% increase in sales during a category-wide decline. During her time at 360i, the agency was named Adweek Digital Agency of the Year, Ad Age Agency A-List No. 3, Mashable Digital Agency of the Year, Creativity Creative Innovators Of The Year, MediaPost Agency of the Year, and the Best Large Agency at the Shorty Awards. Michele was responsible for 3 of the 5 campaigns submitted for consideration for those honors, alongside 2 other notable agency projects.
With an aim to raise the bar on female-targeted advertising, Michele left full-time ad agency life to build her career as a highly specialized independent creative. For the past 12 years, she has brought her soulful creative signature and emotionally attuned writing style to brands and agencies seeking to meet the current moment with humanity and heart.
Outside of writing, Michele is an active freelance advocate and mentor to other ad folks who are building their careers independently. She offers a course for aspiring freelancers called Freelance School, and stewards a tightly knit community dedicated to the mental, emotional and personal-growth support required for freelancers to thrive.
After stints in nearly every major US city, she now keeps a home base on an island off the coast of Georgia (the state,) and spends much of her time nomading between Austin, Boulder, New York, California and Costa Rica.
